Engine dies after a few minutes...

A perculiar problem arose while I was trying to become confident that the car would be reliable on the road. Before I was able to MOT & Tax it, the only driving I could do was up and down the drive. However, it was unable to make that short trip without the engine stopping every few minutes and being difficult to start. I tried fitting an electronic ignition unit from SimonBBC. This improved the general starting and running but didn't stop it cutting out.
I next looked at the fuel pump, I've always had a slight weep from this and I wanted to sort this out. It took the fuel pump off and removed the fuel pipe connections from it. When I looked inside, I found the inlet to the pump had a piece of cellophane covering it! I think I've found the problem. I removed this and reassembled everything, carefully cleaning and making sure all connections were tight.
This solved the problems with the engine cutting out, but I still couldn't stop the connections from leaking fuel slightly. Whilst I'm not keen on replacing parts for the sake of it, it did look like there was a problem with the fuel pump fittings. So, I ordered new parts from Rimmer Bros. Once these had arrived, I fitted them and since then I've had a leak free fuel pump.
